ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED BY THE DEPARTMENT - COMPUTER SCIENCE

  • Interaction - intercollegiate competitions for computer science students.
  • Conducted Workshop for syllabus restructuring(F.Y. B.SC. COMP. SC.) under faculty improvement program of Pune university.
  • State level seminar on "Evolution of cyber threads and need of increased security" under quality improvement program of Pune university.

ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED BY THE DEPARTMENT - MICROBIOLOGY SCIENCE

  • The department conducted “Genetic Engineering” Workshop for College Teachers at Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Ganeshkhind, Pune-53 under Quality Improvement Programme of University of Pune, on 12 – 13 March 2005.
  • The department conducted the Symposium: “Recent Trends in Life Sciences” for College Teachers at  Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Ganeshkhind, Pune-53 under Quality Improvement Programme of University of Pune (Jan 2007).
  • Guest lectures of renowned Scientists and academicians from institutes such as National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) and Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) and Departments of University of Pune and personnel from industry (from Serum Institute) are arranged throughout the year.
  • Students are encouraged to participate in annual Science Exhibition  and Poster Competition conducted by the college.
  • Department conducts Rangoli competition and Salad decoration competition for students based on Microbiology as a theme, during Science Exhibition.
  • Educational Visits: are conducted to various Research Institutes, Blood Bank, Effluent Treatment Plant and Water Treatment Plant as mentioned in the syllabus.

The Department of Chemistry sends M. Sc. students for the summer project at many esteemed research institutes such as Bhabha     Atomic Research Centre, National Chemical Laboratory, HEMRL and also to some industries like Deepak Nitrite, Glaxo, RCF etc.

Every year poster and project competition for students is arranged.

Science exhibition is arranged every year for B.Sc. and M. Sc. Students.

Industrial visits in order to develop a practical approach in students.

Visits to National Chemical Laboratory and University of Pune

Seminars are arranged for M. Sc. students in order to develop their presentation skill.

Students also handle variety of Chemistry related softwares such as Chemwind, ISIS draw, Chemdraw and Origin.

Students Alumni Association is celebrated every year on December 31. It is a very prestigious function of our department where all present and past students meet and share their feelings.

 Chemiad coaching for F. Y. B. Sc. General and Biotechnology students. Every year our students get rank in Chemiad- a university level competition.

Remedial coaching is given to students as per the need.

We guide our students in the development of their soft skills. This year our first M. Sc. batch was out. Our department had arranged campus interviews of Pharmaceutical companies like Innova Synth., Deepak Nitrite and Serum Institute. There was 100 % placement of the students.

Two students have joined for Ph. D.



ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED BY THE DEPARTMENT - BIOTECHNOLOGY SCIENCE

General information about the Department:

The Department of Biotechnology came into existence with the commencement of BSc Biotechnology course during the academic year 2002-2003 as per the Pune University norms and M. Sc. (Biotechnology) course in the academic year 2007-08. Four batches of degree students have passed since then with almost 100% result.

The Department already has three well-established laboratories for conducting B. Sc & M.Sc. (Biotech) courses, with a built up area of 5,800 sq. ft. There are instrument rooms, media preparation room, and separate inoculation and incubation rooms for animal and plant tissue culture. A separate well equipped laboratory, an instrument room, inoculation and culture rooms (Total built up area of 2,500 sq. ft.) is available exclusively for conducting MSc classes and Practicals. There is well-stocked departmental library with about 700 books and journals.

Department of Chemistry is the oldest science department in our college established in 1993. Taking into the consideration the growing interest of the subject, we have started M.Sc. Organic Chemistry course since the academic year 2006-07. The objective of the department is not only to enrich students academically, but also in their all round development.
